New Zealand Wool

There is 27 million sheep in New Zealand with 3% Merino sheep living in the mountains/ hill country producing the fine 15-22microns. 15% are Polwarth, Half-bred and Corriedale  sheep breeds from the hills / back country producing the mid micron range 23-31Microns. The remaining 80+% of sheep are Romney, Texel, Coopworth and Perendale breeds, residing within the low country hills and flat green pastures producing range 31-42Micron.  NZ sheep are well known for producing, clean (lower vegetable matter) and very white wools that allow manufacturers to produce premium pastel colour ranges for floorings such as carpet and  rugs, including niche high end felted rug, car products and tennis balls. Other key markets for NZ wool include bedding and hosiery through to apparel including superfine suiting.
